Training

The Guysborough County Inshore Fishermen’s Association coordinates and partners with other training institutions to deliver industry regulated or requested training in and around the fishing communities. Training is offered at the GCIFA training facility in Canso to reduce travel time and expenses for local fishermen. Occasionally, courses are offered at a reduced rate when the GCIFA staff completes the coordination and administration work.

Courses Offered:

Marine Basic First Aid Course (St. John Ambulance) in January – March annually.
ROC-MC – Digital Radio Operator Course (NSCC School of Fisheries instructed)
SVOP- Small vessel Operator Proficiency Course (NSCC School of Fisheries instructed)
SEN-L – Simulated Electronic Navigations (NSCC School of Fisheries instructed)
MED-A1 – Marine Emergency Duties (NSCC School of Fisheries instructed)

CD Program for FM IV – Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters for 4 components of the Fishing Master IV

Guysborough Adult Learning Association uses the hall on occasion to conduct classes.
